MCRL is based in Gillette, Wyoming and began operations in the Fall of 2011. It is a joint venture between Crown Products and Services Inc., Midwest Industrial Supply, and Rail Link (a division of Genesee & Wyoming Inc.). MCRL’s main business is heavily involved in coal transportation. Before loaded coal cars leave mine sites, MCRL provides an offering involving equipment, technology, and material to spray a polymer chemical compound on top of coal cars with the objective of dust control during transport. The requirement for dust control is mandated by the Tier 1 railroad (BNSF) which transports the coal trains out of the PRB and this requirement is known as the “BNSF Tariff.” The majority of MCRL’s business is centered in the Powder River Basin near Gillette, however, the company also operates a re-spray station for BNSF located in Pasco, WA, and serves additional customers in Montana.
